All breeds are welcome

Every size. Every mix. Every dog matters.

Our English Mastiff emblem honors Luna and the story that helped inspire this rescue. It does not limit the dogs we serve. RSR Legacy accepts dogs of all breeds, mixes, ages, and sizes whenever we have a safe foster placement and the resources to meet their needs.

We maintain a special commitment to mothers and puppies, large and overlooked breeds, and dogs facing urgent shelter deadlines.

Your gift becomes their second chance

Rescue depends on people who choose to help.

RSR Legacy relies on donors to say “yes” when a dog needs safety, treatment, and time. Donations help us take dogs into care responsibly and give each one what they need before adoption, not simply what is easiest or fastest.

Veterinary care

Exams, vaccines, spay or neuter procedures, medications, diagnostics, surgery, and emergency treatment.

Daily care

Quality food, crates, bedding, enrichment, training support, and supplies for dogs in foster homes.

Foster with clarity and confidence

A safe home is the beginning. Your care helps a dog become ready for theirs.

Some dogs arrive healthy and ready to settle in. Others may be frightened, underweight, recovering from illness, or learning home life for the first time. Puppies may need vaccines and potty training. Adult dogs may need follow up care, leash practice, structure, and patience. We will share what we know and help you understand the commitment before a dog is placed with you.

  • A safe way to separate the foster dog from resident pets when needed
  • Any household schedules, travel plans, children, pets, or housing rules we should consider

Common questions

What to expect when you foster

What condition might a foster dog arrive in?

Every dog is different. Some have unknown histories or arrive stressed from a shelter. Others may be underweight, have skin, breathing, or stomach concerns, or need time to recover from surgery or illness. We will share all known information and coordinate needed veterinary care.

What care might I be asked to provide?

Daily care may include meals, a dependable routine, medication given as instructed, follow up visits, vaccine appointments, potty training, leash practice, and basic commands. We may also ask for observations, photos, and updates that help us make good care and adoption decisions.

Do I need training experience?

No. Patience, consistency, communication, and a willingness to learn matter most. Being honest about your experience helps us make an appropriate match. When a dog needs more help, we may provide coaching or arrange support from an experienced volunteer or trainer when available.

How long is a foster commitment?

It depends on the dog and the need. A foster stay may be one day, one week, several weeks, or a few months. We will discuss the expected time before placement so you can decide whether it is right for you.

What if I realize I cannot continue?

Unexpected situations happen. Contact RSR Legacy as soon as possible and never give the dog to another person or home on your own. We need time to arrange a safe alternative. A sudden change can leave the dog without a secure place, so early and honest communication is essential.

What is my most important role as a foster?

Get to know the dog and help them become the best version of themselves. Your care can improve health, build trust, create routine, and teach useful home skills. Your honest notes about personality, behavior, triggers, strengths, and needs help us choose an adopter who is truly a good fit.

What support will I receive?

We will discuss expectations, stay in contact, coordinate approved veterinary care, and arrange supplies and resources with you. If a challenge comes up, tell us early. Depending on the situation and availability, support may include practical coaching, an experienced volunteer, or a trainer.

Can I choose what I can and cannot do?

Yes. Clear limits do not make you a less valuable foster. They help us protect you and the dog. Tell us what feels manageable, and we will work toward a match that fits your home, skills, schedule, and comfort level.

RSR Legacy Dog Rescue

Why RSR Legacy

A lifetime of stopping for one dog became a leap of faith for thousands more.

Founder Kristle Marshall has never been able to pass by a dog in need. Throughout her life, she has stopped whenever she saw an animal roaming the streets, determined to bring them to safety and find their family. Once, the dog she thought she had rescued turned out to be a wild dingo. Her instinct was still the same: if an animal needed help, she could not simply look away.

That love lives in her son, too. When Kristle met Lori and learned about her dedication to dog rescue, she knew their shared compassion was meant to become something more. Lori connected Kristle and her son with Rescue Fenix, where they began volunteering at events. Before long, they were fostering, learning from Lori’s years of experience, and seeing firsthand how one safe home can completely change the course of a dog’s life.

Kristle and Lori were later offered what felt like the opportunity of a lifetime with a rescue that was being built. Although that opportunity did not come to life, neither did their dreams disappear. Kristle still imagined a ranch filled with dogs. Lori still imagined a sanctuary. Kristle realized that one closed door did not have to be the end of the dream. Nothing was stopping them from taking a leap of faith and building it themselves.

RSR Legacy was born from that leap. It is rooted in faith that the right people, resources, and opportunities will find their way to this mission. It is also a promise that their families will be part of the journey as they create better lives for many dogs. Dogs are innocent, loyal, and unconditionally loving. They may be with us for only a short part of our lives, but the love they leave behind stays with us long after they are gone.

“Every dog deserves to come home to someone who is overjoyed to see them, and every person deserves to know the love of a dog who makes them feel like the most important person in the world.”
